What to Expect During the Application Process
Applicants have 30 days to submit / provide all application requirements. The 30 days starts with the introduction email you received from your Case Coordinator. Please refer back to this email for your specific expiration date and login information you will need.
During our application process you will:
Complete our online application form (link below)
Our application form begins with an "application cover page". Once you have submitted the cover page, you will progress through the application form. You will only complete the cover page once.
You will be allowed to save and return to your application form as often as needed, until you have submitted the form, or the 30 day time limit has expired (which ever comes first). To return, simply use the application link below with your login information.
Pay the $500 Application Fee
In the next 2-3 business days, Nick Schmidt (our Operations Manager) will email your Application Fee Invoice and payment instructions.
After your online application form and application fee have been received, a phone call will be scheduled to review your information, our contracts & disclosures, and additional case-specific requirements. **We will not proceed to this step until both your application and fee are received.**
Sign program specific contract & disclosures and provide copies of requested verification documents
After you have submitted your application from, you will gain access to our Family Portal - where you will access your Case Checklist and the remaining items needed to complete the application phase.
All applicants will access their Case Checklist on the Family Portal to download the application documents packet with checklist. All items on the checklist, including original signed contract and disclosures, will be mailed to Children of the World *These must be sent at one time, all together.*
Non-Alabama Residents
Non-Alabama residents will make their Home Study Agency selection during the application phase. (We will complete the Home Study process for all Alabama residents)
Your Case Checklist will contain instructions for the Home Study Agency selection process.
Non-Alabama residents MUST NOT begin their home study with a home study agency until all regulatory requirements have been met between our two agencies, and I have approved you to begin. This policy comes from our Hague Accreditation Entity, IAAME.
Once all of the above requirements are met, your application file will be reviewed for approval.
Families who are pursuing an adoption with Children of the World must complete the entire application process and have their submissions approved before they will be considered clients and allowed to begin the adoption process.
