Court Investigation Reports (CIRs)
Pursuing the adoption of your relative or step-child? We can help!
Relatives are daily stepping in and stepping up for their nieces/ nephews, grandchildren, younger siblings and stepchildren. The uncertainty of the future and the desire to offer permanency of these beloved family members can be resolved with relative adoption! As of January 1, 2024, and then updated again January 1, 2026, all relative adoptive parents must undergo a court investigation report. This report is primarily a background check coupled with a home visit by a social worker. Children of the World has trained and knowledgeable coordinators ready to assist and guide you through the process.
Effective January 1, 2024: Alabama Law Code 26-10E-26,27 set new requirements for all RELATIVE ADOPTIONS (grandparent, step-parent, etc.). Our Adoption Coordinators work across the state to compile the necessary court investigation information needed to adopt a related child.
