Welcome to the Children of the World India program. Children of the World has been licensed by C.A.R.A. since 1996. We have established collaborative agreements with two child wellfare institutions in India. We currently work in Kolkata and Chennai. Families of Indian ethnic heritage are given priority in adoption.

India Adoption Program Requirements:

* The combined age of parents can not exceed 85.
* The length of your marriage must be a minimum of 3 years. (5 years or more is prefered.)
* Single females 30-45 years of age are accepted on a case by case basis.
* You must have no more than 1 divorce.
* You may have up to 3 children already in the home.
* Childless couples are given priority.
* With Older children, special needs and sibling groups, exceptions can be made to the above requirements.

Parents receive their referral approximately nine to twelve months after the dossier has been sent to India.  The referral includes a photo, medical report, and child’s history.  After the child has been accepted, the court process takes anywhere from six to twelve months to complete. The child comes to the US under the Guardianship Act. Adoptive parents must finalize the adoption within two years of the child's arrival in the U.S. India prefers the family to travel to India but some exceptions can be made.
